Delightful Musical Discovery on My Orange Brompton

Last Friday, I embarked upon a ride on my trusty Orange Superlight, a bicycle that rarely fails to bring a smile to my face. As I pedalled through the bustling streets of London, I decided to take a brief stop near the iconic St Mary Le Bow church in Cheapside to check my phone for a message I was expecting. It was here that I had a delightful encounter with a gentleman who was intrigued by my Brompton. We struck up a conversation, and to my surprise, he mentioned that there was a lunchtime concert happening within the church in about 20 minutes or so.

Curiosity piqued, I quickly folded my bike and made my way inside the church. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, filled with the anticipation of music. The concert was hosted by the Guildhall School of Music, and they were presenting an historical performance that promised to be a treat for the senses.

As the musicians took their places, I was captivated by the sound of the harpsichord, which resonated beautifully throughout the space. However, it was the theorbos, a stringed instrument with a rich, deep tone, that truly stole the show. The performers brought the music to life, and I found myself lost in the melodies, transported to another time.

It’s moments like these that remind me of the joys of cycling around London. The things you see on a Brompton, often by chance, can lead to delightful experiences and unexpected connections. Who knew that a simple ride could turn into 60 minutes filled with beautiful music and engaging? I left the concert feeling uplifted, grateful for the little adventures that life has to offer.

I did not take make photos but did capture a short clip which you can see and hear on my Instagram account @orangebrompton.

Until next time, stay safe out there people!
