A gripping review of Brompton's G-Line grips!

Over the years, I have not really settled with the standard offerings as far as Brompton grips are concerned. For example, the ones that came with my Brompton 15 years ago were a bit like the foam lagging one places around pipes in your garage or outbuilding - uninviting and certainly not something one would want to cling to for dear life! They have certainly improved over the years, but like many enthusiasts out there, I swapped them out almost immediately for much better offerings from the likes of Ergon. I did expect to do the same for my G-Line, but I haven’t, and that’s saying something!

The G-Line and its grips are meant to allow the user to go further, go longer, and do so in comfort. This is actually true. The grips feature a wide platform that genuinely supports your wrist. They are crafted from a soft rubber material that cushions your hands from all the less-than-ideal terrain you might encounter. Importantly for the G-Line, they manage to be quite light.  In my opinion, they are better than the similar Ergon grips I have used on many of my other Brompton bicycles. After several 60+ mile overnight rides to the coast, I can confidently say these grips contributed to zero issues on the hand front. Not a blister in sight or an ache when playing the piano later on!

Brompton have recently unleashed a handful of versions of these grips in exciting colours. Naturally, the orange and black version caught my eye - nothing like a splash of colour to brighten up one's ride! I can confirm there is no difference to these and the existing grips on my G-Line, but one must always remain stylish.

I’m unsure whether the new coloured grips will remain on my G-Line as I do like the original offerings it came with. If they do get a new home, they might find themselves gracing my Orange Superlight instead.

When I venture off-road (and yes, I can confirm that my off-road and your off-road are almost certainly two very different things), I will be content knowing that the grips are doing their bit to make the ride more comfortable. Well done for that, Brompton!

Until next time, stay safe out there people!
