It is safe to say that I am a bit of a Wahoo fan. The Roam is the thirds of their navigation devices I have owned but sadly it looks as if it is coming to the end of its life.
On the recent night ride to Southend, the battery drained to zero - something it has now done on two other occasions - where it normally lasts the entire night with ease.
The Wahoo has allowed me to navigate of all sorts of rides and given me the confidence to do so, knowing that it is very reliable. I have tried other navigation devices from other well know manufacturers (you can guess who) but never got on with them in any way. I certainly didn't have any faith that I could navigate on an overnight ride to the coast.
I sent an email to Wahoo asking whether anything could be done - perhaps a battery replacement - but I now suspect this is not possible. I do not have a receipt for it, despite searching for for it, which means it is quite possibly the end of the road for it.
I could power it via a portable juice pack but this is far from ideal. In addition I did this on the recent Southend run but it didn't really help that much as the battery just kept giving up.
I will let you know how I get on and what I end up doing but I suspect its adventures have come to an end.
Until next time, stay safe out there people.
I've always been amazed how wahoo have replaced a dead unit, although that one may be past their extremely long warranty. But twice wahoo have just sent a replacement to me. Still, as fellow happy Roam user and bike bell remover, the Roam 3 is interesting. Better climb stuff make it more interesting.
ReplyDeleteRIP Wahoo ROAM. I’m on my second Roam as I had a little spill and crushed the old one. I did try a different sat nav from “who shall not be named” but returned it after about 5 days as it kept crashing all the time.
ReplyDeleteVery happy with the Wahoo Roam (v2 i think)
My Roam v1 has become very unreliable. Battery appears fine but the gps connectivity appears very hit or miss. Yesterday on unknown route turns were missed but not highlighted and it tried to take me down a trail that was not there. When I got on the correct route its display said I was somewhere else. Before this I noticed my speed data was often way off and it has tried to redirect me on familiar routes saying I was off route without there actually being any route it claimed I should take. I’m suspicious they have changed gps systems and is now not fully supported or connected. I never had issues like this before.
ReplyDeleteHello there. That doesn't sound good does it. Perhaps you could contact Wahoo and ask if they have any answers. Ages ago I could not input a postcode/location to go to but saw in a forum others had the same issue and made Wahoo aware. It was then fixed in the next firmware update. Best of luck and let me know how you get on.
